Reason for SCIS:

I am a registered nurse in a level one trauma intensive care unit. Before working there, the only thing I knew about spinal cord injury was the actor, Christopher Reeve, suffered one. Shortly after starting on the trauma unit I cared for my first patient with SCI, then another and another and another. The number of patients who come in with this life altering injury is shocking to me. I began looking for ways I could help, not just in caring for SCI patients but ways to educate the public, and support research which may, one day, reverse the damage SCI causes. This is how I found SCIsucks. I'm not a runner, in fact I hate running, but if running for SCIsucks means I can raise money and awareness for a cause that I'm passionate about… then bring on the pain!
