I wanted to run for a good friend who is a huge supporter of this cause!
I have been training all summer for my first marathon (26.2 miles). Getting up at 5:00 am on Saturdays to put my 27-year-old body through some rough wear and tear. But all of this pain and soreness is temporary. I know with a little ice and some stretching, I can go out and run again the next day.
People in wheelchairs don't have that luxury. They can't decide one day that they're going to go out for a run. One of my good friends and the inspiration for me running the Chicago Marathon is in a wheelchair. It might be admirable that I'm running a marathon, but I admire her every day for getting up and living her life like any other twenty-something in a world that isn't always wheelchair friendly.
I am running this marathon for the organization Spinal Cord Injury Sucks (SCIS), an organization trying to raise money for spinal cord injury research. I hope you are willing to support this worthy cause. If you're in the Chicago area, check out the marathon on 10-10-10. The person crawling across the finish line will be me!
